When you use DreamedAbout.com, we collect the following information:
- Username — chosen by you at registration
- Email address — used for account confirmation and password resets
- Dream logs — the record of which public figures you log dreams about
- Timestamps — when each dream log is submitted
- Descriptor selections — the preset descriptor you choose for each dream (e.g. Surprising, Comforting)
- IP address — collected for security and abuse prevention purposes only
2. What We Do Not Collect
We do not collect:
- Real names
- Payment information
- Location data
- Sensitive personal data
- The content or narrative of your actual dreams — only the public figure and descriptor selection
3. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used to:
- Operate and maintain the DreamedAbout.com platform
- Authenticate your account and manage your session
- Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset)
- Display your dream logs publicly as part of the site's core functionality
- Generate aggregate trend statistics
4. Public Information
Dream logs are public. When you log a dream, your username, the public figure's name, and the descriptor you chose are visible to all visitors on the person's page and in the global feed.
Do not log anything you wish to keep private. The public nature of dream logs is a core feature of the platform, not a side effect.
5. Data Shared with Third Parties
Only anonymized, aggregate trend data is shared with or sold to third parties. This includes information such as which public figures are most dreamed about, how tallies change over time, and descriptor distribution breakdowns.
No personally identifiable information — including your email address, username, or individual dream logs — is ever included in data sold to third parties.
6. Email Communications
We send only transactional emails:
- Account confirmation email when you register
- Password reset email when you request one
We do not send marketing emails, newsletters, or promotional messages. All emails originate from noreply@dreamedabout.com.
7. Cookies and Sessions
DreamedAbout.com uses PHP sessions for login authentication only. A session cookie is set when you log in and cleared when you log out. We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or third-party advertising cookies.
8. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you wish to have your account and associated data deleted, you may request deletion by contacting us at admin@dreamedabout.com.
9. Children
DreamedAbout.com is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If we become aware that a user under 18 has registered, their account will be terminated and their data deleted.
10. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including:
- Password hashing — passwords are stored using bcrypt, never in plain text
- HTTPS — all connections are encrypted in transit
- Secure session handling — sessions use httponly, secure, and samesite cookie attributes
No system is completely secure. While we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Your Rights
You may request access to or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing admin@dreamedabout.com. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of DreamedAbout.com after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
